Responsible for safety administrative activities and managing the operational support services of radiation, chemical, biological and general safety. Ensure the Institute is in compliance with Federal, State and local agencies for regulations regarding safety and the environment. The Director will be the acting Radiation Safety Officer on the Institutes radiation license and Emergency Coordinator. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Establish and implement operational procedures and manuals for radiation, chemical, biological and general safety. Supervise safety personnel duties and compliance with safety regulations. The Director will be responsible for procurement of licenses, registrations, and permits, environmental taxes and DEA permit. Waste management program for disposal of radioactive, chemical and biological materials in compliance with Federal and State regulations. Emergency Coordinator for emergency responses and prepare emergency contingency plan. Teach training classes for laboratory and non-laboratory personnel for radiation, chemical, biological, general safety and ergonomics. Manage the Institutes shared equipment for service contracts, maintenance, repairs, and supplies. Evaluate Institute's shared equipment for replacement and the purchasing of new equipment. Manage common equipment rooms for space and supplies, gases and dry ice. Perform some facilities duties. QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION Degree or Certificate in Environmental, Health and Safety or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 years experience in Environmental, Health and Safety or related experience. Must be qualified as the Radiation Safety Officer for the Radioactive Materials License. 40 hour HAZWOPER certified. Strong organizational and communication skills, positive attitude, must exercise initiative and independent judgement in the performance of assigned tasks.
